Thinking Cycle

We all think critically. Critical thinking is a life skill that guides us when making decisions. For example, deciding what to have for dinner involves critical thinking. You gather information about ingredients in the fridge or pantry and organise them into a workable recipe.

Finally, you communicate your findings with a prepared dinner.

Critical thinking not only assists with dinner preparation but also equips us to operate in today’s rapidly changing world.

Marketing experts estimate we are bombarded with up to 1500 subliminal advertising messages each day. That’s a big claim, but if you analyse your day, you’ll see they’re not far off.

Do you wear clothing with the designer’s label on the outside? Do you stick to the one brand of morning coffee? Do you notice other cars that are the same make as yours? Did you notice them before you bought that brand?

The list is endless. Our critical thinking brains are constantly scanning and analysing messages.

We’re often not aware of the level of messaging. You’ve were about that new pair of shoes and a little later an advertisment for them appears on your social media feed. I have friends who mute the microphone on their smart phones for that reason.
