Human Abilities

This picture shows humans riding a variety of wheeled machines.

You'll find some interesting stats about our brains if you flick over to the kid’s blog. I won’t go into the figures here (because they’re in the other post), but let’s just say that the human brain can process things quickly.

We’ve evolved an incredibly advanced brain. The processing power alone has been clocked at better than a supercomputer. Not only do we have superior processing power, but also we can learn.

Until recently, machines couldn’t do the second part of that sentence. Computers can out-calculate us. AI (artificial intelligence) has put them on the learning path. It’s an emotionless path.

Humans do learning well.

The other thing we excel at is personality. Where does that come from? Well, without wading too deeply into what we’re born with and what we develop, we get it from our brains.

Personality is what, I believe, machines will never have.

Yes, our smart watches talk to us in friendly voices. Taken in isolation, they are computer-generated. Sampled human voices that learn our habits and follow us around. (like a trained puppy.)

Besides, our brains devised the whole ‘let’s teach machines to think for themselves’ routine in the first place.

It is our brains that shape our futures. It is the brains of our children who will need creative thinking to solve problems. Machines will assist but not take the place of human brains.

It’s why we need to nurture a child’s brain. We need it to learn. In short:

We need to teach it.
