Brains
Hey, welcome back to another school year in Australia! If you’re reading this from somewhere else, most likely, you’re already there, almost a month in.
We’ve covered these before, but it’s worth repeating them. Here are some interesting facts about your brain:
750-1000mL of blood flows through the brain in one minute (1000 millilitres = 1 litre, which is 0.21 of a gallon)
There are up to 100 billion neurons in your brain. Neurons are the cells that do all the work, like thinking.
Your brain is the fattest organ in your body, consisting of at least 60% fat
Information flows along neurons at speeds up to 120m/sec (that’s pretty quick: 432 kilometres per hour, or 268 miles per hour).
The average number of thoughts each human brain has daily is around 70 thousand.
Laughing at a joke requires five different areas of your brain to work together.
A living human brain generates enough power to light a 25-watt light bulb.
