Brain Pictures
One of the best things about our brains is their skill at remembering things. Most likely, you have lots of memories. They can be simple memories or brain pictures.
That’s a neat thing about memories–they are pictures. Here’s a word: dog
When you read it, your brain held up a picture of a dog. If someone said the word dog to you, your brain searched for pictures of them.
Very few of us remember things in only words. Remember your last birthday? Did you have a party and invite your friends? Did your friends bring gifts? What did they give you? What colour was your birthday cake?
The first three questions need only Yes or No. The final two need more detail. And, here’s the best bit: your brain threw you some pictures of the gifts and your birthday cake.
A brain scientist once told me that everything we’ve ever done, seen, heard, tasted, touched, or smelled is stored in our memory. Hard to believe, right? He was a scientist with many years of training. So, I guess he was right.
He said that every memory was there; we needed to dig around and find them.
