Banter

This is an image of a rock guitarist.

How do we learn things? We humans have thought of millions of ways to learn. Before we dig into a few, let’s banter about learning. What is it?

It means you can use something to make a difference in your or someone else’s life. So, what does that mean? Here’s an example:

Show your little brother/sister how to use a pair of scissors.

You made a difference in their lives because they don’t have to ask you to cut their paper. You made a difference in your life because they know how to cut paper and won’t bug you to do it. So, you have more time for other things.

Win-Win!

How long does it take to learn something? That depends on many things, but mainly on what you’re trying to learn. You’ll probably struggle if you’re eight and want to learn how to build a moon rocket.

If you’re eight and want to learn to play guitar, you’ll find it difficult at first, but it will get easier. Building a moon rocket will be difficult for much longer. Both will feel easier the more you learn about them. Because building a rocket involves much more learning, it will take longer. You might find yourself losing interest and giving up.

The same could happen with the guitar, but if you find it makes a difference in your life, you’ll keep at it. And if someone tells you how good it sounded, you made a difference in their life. How was that for some banter?
